Clauncher includes a discussion with Corphish, and Ash sooner or later deduces that Clauncher would like him and Misty to fight as a way to make a decision which ones will get to catch him, which Clauncher confirms using a nod. Misty happily accepts this, but prior to the battle can even start, Clauncher is caught in Team Rocket's own fishing line.
